dietitian wimbledon #01

Connecting mind and body

Welcome - my name is Helen Cordery, and through this website I hope to give you an insight into my work as a psychotherapist and as a dietitian.

I hope it answers all your queries, but if not, please feel free to contact me for more information.

A little bit about me

I am a dietitian registered with the Health Professions Council. Having qualified in 1992 I have 20 years’ experience supporting people to make lasting improvements to their diet and lifestyle. I have experience in many areas – pregnancy, healthy eating post birth (including advice for breastfeeding), infant nutrition (0-5 years), weight loss, to name but a few – but my main specialism has been eating disorders. Over half of my career has been spent working with people who live with eating difficulties such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder.

Over my time as a dietitian I developed an interest in emotional factors that impact on our diet - how we think, what we feel, what makes us tick, and why we do what we do. In 2006 I decided to channel this interest into training in attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the John Bowlby Centre in London, a training which I will complete in July 2012. As part of this training process, I have been practising psychotherapy for over two years.

I feel the combined skills and knowledge of being a dietitian/nutritionist and a psychotherapist mean I offer a service that encompasses BOTH the mind and body.

I work with adults (aged 16+) on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to permanently change your life for the better.

I am registered with the Health Professions Council for my work as a dietitian/nutritionist, and with UKCP for my psychotherapy work, and comply with both organisations' Code of Conduct.

My therapy rooms are located in the Bowlby Centre, near Liverpool Street in Central London, and in Wimbledon in South West London.

Please see FAQ for information regarding fees.
